Christmas

our christmas this year was lovely. this was the first year that we hosted, my family came from austin to our charming house, i cooked an entire christmas meal all by myself, and we even had a real charlie brown christmas tree! but, this was also the first year that christopher did not spend with his family - and his mom and little sister paige called a little teary-eyed to wish us a merry christmas. we are trying to figure out our holidays and traditions and balancing all of our families - and what we want to cultivate in our own family once littles come. this year both me and christopher had to work on christmas eve, but not too late, my family came early that morning and we all went thrifting and had lunch with christopher before i had to be at work. and i was off work and home by evening, to enjoy some quality time with my loved ones. my family always gets excited about presents and like usual we ended up opening all of our presents on christmas eve! it was so crazy! christopher had never done that growing up and i think it made him a little sad. so christmas morning we all slept in, had waffles and eggs for breakfast, and then i got to work cooking christmas dinner. i made a baked herb chicken with all the yummy spices, i also made a ham with brown sugar glaze, homemade mash potatoes, broccoli casserole, and black berry cobbler for dessert! there was so much laughter and silly tickle fights, cuddles while watching movies, a thankful dinner, and then we all played soccer at our local park! it was such a beautiful day!

got some 'spalainin' to do

I can't believe it's really been a whole month since I have blogged. I am really trying to give it some designated time every day, I would love to become a more disciplined person and not just when it comes to blogging. I tend to get really passionate about something and dive head first and my excitement about this new 'thing' really becomes an unhealthy obsession taking time from other important things in my life and then when I am bored or not seeing the results that I want, I quickly move on to the next thing. I wanted to see if I could blog everyday for a whole year and I have already blown it. But, that's okay, at least I am trying. and I have a handful of really really good excuses as to why I haven't been (disciplined) that I won't even mention, because, well, they are still excuses.
However, I did want to share an exciting story about my new JOB! I have been working at Anthropologie for a few weeks now and absolutely love everything about it. I love my co-workers, the environment, the concepts, i love that it's another creative outlet for me, and yes, i love the discount. and I really do enjoy helping women and often times new mother's discover themselves again and their signature style. I have been a fan of Anthropologie for a long long time and have always swooned over their unique selection of apparel, shoes, home, and furniture. As some of you know, we have been living in transition from one place to the next, which has placed us in Plano, TX for the time being. So, when a dear friend of mine, mentioned a store that reminded her of me, a little store called Anthropologie that quietly sits in Willow bend Mall in Plano, TX. I had to go pay a visit.
As I was walking around holding this adorable elephant ornament (made in Haiti and helps support  men and women who have lost their homes due to the earth-quake) Mel, approached me and casually started a conversation with me about my plans for the evening and after I had reassured her that I didn't have any, a look of relief came upon her face, and she said
(mel)' oh good. well, would you like a job here?'
(me) 'what do you mean?'
(mel) 'well, i really like your style and you look like you should work at Anthropologie'
(me) 'Yes, I would love to work here!' (with a silly grin on my face and trying to hold my composure!)

I had an on the spot interview with Mel, that was actually a lot of fun and we just kind of talked about our similar interest in vintage shopping. I had training the next day, and started a day after that. and I have recieved a rookie of the year award, and so of course this dress (actually a skirt worn as a dress), along with my vintage boots is now my lucky look, and I had to buy that elephant! and of course when I got home I told Christopher, 'See, all my thriftiness is finally paying off!' So that lady and gents is how I got my Job and why I have been a little absent.
